Pay Commission report unlikely in a year

Sunday, 2 March 2014

The Pay and Services Commission is unlikely to able to submit its report within a year recommending a new pay scale for the public servants. “The previous pay commissions had taken 15 months to submit their reports. I think we too won’t be able to report within 10-12 months,” Commission chairman Dr Mohammed Farashuddin told reporters at the Pay and Services Commission office here on Sunday after its meeting. About the outcome of the meeting, he said the Commission has formulated an action plan about what it will do in the next 6  to 9 months. He said the Commission is working to formulate a pay structure of the public servants considering the inflation so that their lifestyle remains stable. “We’re considering six members of an employee’s family instead of four for preparing the report.” Farashuddin said they are examining the evidence of pay commissions of different countries and previous pay commissions in Bangladesh to make a suitable report. “I hope we’ll be able to help the government with a standard report,” he added, according to a news agency.
