Pay RMG workers’ wages, bonus before Eid: Govt

The government on Thursday asked garment factory owners to pay the workers’ wages by July 10 and Eid bonus by July 14.
State Minister for Labour and Employment Mujibul Haque Chunnu made the announcement  after attending a Crisis Management Core Committee meeting at the ministry.
Mujibul Haque also asked the factory owners to give Eid leave in phases to their workers to avoid traffic jams on highways.
The committee will request the Bangladesh Bank to keep the banks open on public holidays during Ramadan.
The minister also said law enforcement agencies will be kept on alert to fend off any trouble by garment workers centring waged and bonus.
Members of BGMEA, BKMEA, garment owners and representatives from garment workers’ panels were present at the meeting.
