PBCP calls off hartal

CHATTOGRAM, May 6: A three-day hartal called by Parbatya Bangalee Chhatra Parishad (PBCP) in the hill districts has been suspended from Sunday evening following assurance of the local administration in Khagrachhari.
A statement issued by PBCP organizing secretary Parvez Alam said the hartal for May 7 and 8 has been postponed as the local administration has assured them of considering their demands.
The demands include arrest of the killers of microbus driver Sajib Hossain shot dead at Naniarchar upazila of Rangamati and rescue of three men abducted by miscreants last month from Mohalchari upazila of Khagrachhari.
Meanwhile, inter-district buses remained off the roads in Khagrachhari and cargo and passenger transport between Khagrachhari and other districts was suspended from 6.00am to 6.00pm on the first day of the hartal on Sunday.
PBCP leaders said the shops and markets remained also closed on Sunday in Khagrachhari.
