PBCP leader gunned down in Pabna

PABNA, Oct 28: A regional leader of Purba Banglar Communist party (PBCP, ML-Janajuddha) was gunned down by his rivals on the bank of Chiknai river at Kuabashi village in Chatmohar Upazila of Pabna early Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Sohel Rana, the regional leader of PBCP, (ML-Janajuddha) and a residence of Megharpara village in the upazila.
Police quoting the family said a gang of arms numbering 7 to 8 picked Rana up from his residence of Megharpara village at about 2:30am and shot him dead on the bank of Chiknai river.
Police recovered the body of Sohel Rana (26), from the scene Thursday morning and sent it to the Pabna General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Rana was accused in a number of cases, including two for murders. Officer-in-Charge Saiful Islam of Chatmohar police station said Rana might have been killed following an internal party clash.
A case was fileed with Chatmohar police station in this regard.
17 JL, BCL men refused bail
Another report from Pabna adds: A Pabna court on Wednesday granted bail to eight and refused the bail prayers of 17 other accused of leaders and activists of Juba League and BCL in one of the two cases filed in connection with the attack on government officials and vandalised the two examination centres on September 17 in town.
Senior Judicial Magistrate of Speedy Trial Tribunal of Pabna Parvez Shahriar granted them bail considering their age and the time they served at jail.
The leaders and activists who got bails are Pabna District BCL unit President Ahmed Sharif Dablu, former president Mostafizur Rahman Sweet, former president of Pabna Edward College BCL unit Piyal, Pabna organising secretary of district Jubo League Zahir Hossain Rubel and its activists Raihan, Mazid, Sharif and Haroon.
With this, the court granted bail to 10 accused in the case.
The court, however, refused the bail prayers of 17 other accused after their counsel Abdul Ahad filed petitions seeking their bail.
