PBCP ring leader killed in gunfight

PABNA, Apr 30: The regional military commander of outlawed Purba Banglar Communist Party (PBCP, ML-Janajuddha) in Pabna was killed in a gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion near Goyeeshbari High School under Ataikula police station in Santhia Upazila of Pabna early Friday. The police recovered firearms from the spot. The deceased was Ziaur Rahman (28), alias Bomaru Zia alias Gola Kata Zia. Officer-in-Charge of Ataikula police station, Habibul Islam said that a team of Rapid Action Battalion found that an armed gang of the PBCP-Janajuddha were moving suspiciously and challenged them at Goyeeshbari High School at around 2:30 am when the gang fired on the RAB team. RAB fired back, triggering a 20-minute 'gunfight'. The law enforcers found the bullet-hit body of Zia after his associates fled the scene, the OC said. Police recovered the body from the spot and sent it to the Pabna Medical College Hospital morgue of autopsy. Zia was accused in number of cases including seven for murder. Police recovered one shutter gun, one pistol, two magazines, one cartridge, five rounds of bullet, three axes and four sharp knives from the spot.
