PCJSS threatens \\\'non-coop movement\\\' against govt

Sunday, 30 November 2014

A faction of Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS) on Saturday threatened to wage a non-cooperation movement against the government unless it takes effective steps to fully implement the CHT Peace Accord by April next, reports UNB.
"Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity will launch a non-cooperation movement against the government from May 1 if it fails to take time-bound effective steps to implement the CHT Peace Accord within April 30," Santu Larma, president of the PCJSS faction, said.
He was addressing a press conference at Hotel Sundarban in the capital ahead of the 17th anniversary of signing the CHT peace treaty.
On December 2, 1997, the then Awami League government and PCJSS signed the peace accord with a view to recognising the rights of ethnic communities of the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
Santu Larma alleged that the government has been giving false assurances to indigenous people, saying PCJSS must prevent the government if it takes any step against the indigenous people during implementation of the accord's roadmap.
About the nature of their non-cooperation movement, the PCJSS faction chief said it depends on the situation. "It may take any mode. It might be peaceful or violent," he added.
