PDB demands fresh election schedule

Sunday, 16 November 2008

Progressive Democratic Party (PDB) Saturday demanded that the December 18 general elections be rescheduled and a fresh poll schedule be announced after discussions with the political parties, reports BSS.
Addressing a press conference at PDB office here, its chairman Ferdous Ahmed Qureshi said that for ensuring free, fair and credible general elections, participation of all political parties was a must.
He urged all political leaders, especially chiefs of two major political alliances, to reach a consensus rising above petty political interests.
Qureshi also requested the government to announce a new election schedule after discussions with all political parties immediately.
He said about 50 thousand Hajj pilgrims will be deprived of casting their votes if the elections were held on December 18.
The four-party alliance was still opposing holding of polls on December 18, he said. "So considering the prevailing situation, we apprehend that without participation of all political parties in the elections, a new crisis would crop up."
Party secretary general Nur Mohammad Khan and additional secretary general Golam Sarwar Milon, among others, were present at the press conference.
