Peace before talks: Inu
Monday, 9 February 2015
Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu, MP, said there would be no dialogue between "humans and demons." "There has to be peace first", the minister insisted, reports BSS.
The minister was addressing a press conference at the Press Information Department (PID) conference room.
The information minister said that the arson and killing of innocent people in the name of hartal and blockade continues unabated despite the groans and pains of the suffering masses and repeated calls by the international community to stop those.
He said the number of patients is on the increase in the burn units and the pile of burnt corpses goes up every day but the brutality of the arsonists continues.
Referring to people who suggest dialogue and compromise, he said that they should ensure first whether Khaleda Zia wanted it.
He said that before the January 5, 2014, election Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had offered dialogue but the BNP had spurned it because they do not want a political solution. Her aim was to usurp power by holding the nation hostage.
The information minister also criticised those who propose dialogue for failure to come up with any constructive suggestion. He said the government was ready for dialogue any time but that has to be within the framework of the constitution.
He also said that there has to be peace, first. "The arson attacks must stop before talks can start," he said.
Inu said there are groups of people who "intellectualise" the arson attacks by saying that it is a direct outcome of BNP being denied "political space".
But he reminded them that before January 5, 2015 when BNP was holding public meetings across the country Khaleda and her son were openly calling for subversion. He wondered why that was done.
