Peaceful hartal in Jessore

A daylong hartal (shutdown), called for today (Tuesday) in Jessore district by the local unit of BNP, has been observed without major untoward incident till filing of this report at 4:30pm, 1-and-half-hour before the lockdown ends at 6pm. BNP have enforced the 6am to 6pm shutdown protesting ‘vote rigging’ during the 4th phase of Upazila Parishad election in the district on Sunday. BNP standing committee member Tariqul Islam announced the shutdown programme at a press briefing at Jessore Press Club on Monday, according to a news agency.
