Peaceful hartal observed in Noapara

BENAPOLE, Dec 3 (UNB): A dawn-to-dusk hartal called by Sangram Committee protesting the killing of Oliar Rahman, councillor of Noapara Municipality and also joint secretary of Abhaynagar Upazila unit of Awami League (AL), was observed peacefully in Noapara municipality area today.
Picketing by the committee supporters was seen in different parts of the area in the morning.
Most of the shops and non-government offices remained closed and almost all modes of vehicles remained off the streets.
No untoward incident was reported till filing of this report at 9:30am.
A large number of police personnel were deployed to fend off any trouble.
Oliar Rahman was gunned down by miscreants at Guakhola village in Abhaynagar Upazila on November 23.
Quoting locals, police said Oliar came under attack from a group of miscreants on his way back home after saying Fazr prayers at a local mosque around 7:30 am.
The attackers fired two shots at him near his residence in the area, leaving him injured. Oliar died on way to Khulna Medical College Hospital.
