More than 3.4 million cases are now pending with both the higher and lower courts across the country, according to statistics placed by Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq in Parliament on Monday, reports BSS.
"Now the total number of the cases pending with the country's higher and lower courts is 34,53,353," he said responding to a starred question from treasury bench MP M Abdul Latif (Chattogram-11).
The minister, however, said the government has taken effective measures for the quick disposal of the huge number of cases.
He said the present government has brought marked changes in the civil and criminal judicial systems after returning to power.
"The incumbent government has relentlessly been trying to reduce the backlog of cases taking it as a challenge," he added.
