People blockade Dhaka-Aricha highway

MANIKGANJ, Jan 17 (UNB): Angry people put up barricade on Dhaka-Aricha highway Sunday disrupting traffic movement for two hours following a road accident here that left a minor girl critically injured.
Police said that a Dhaka bound pick up van hit Abdul Khalek Mia's minor daughter Salma (7), in front of Zagir High School in Sadar Upazila while she was crossing the highway along with her grand-mother at about 10:00 am.
Seriously injured Salma was rushed to Sadar hospital.
After the accident, angry students of the school and local people put barricade on the highway demanding speed-breaker in front of the school.
During the barricade, a large number of vehicles remained stranded on both sides of the busy highway causing tremendous traffic congestion.
Later, the agitated people withdrew the barricade at about 12:00 noon following the assurance of the local administration to set up the demanded speed-breaker.
