People can now afford meat three times a day thanks to relentless efforts of the scientists who have helped achieve extraordinary development in the livestock sector, said fisheries and livestock minister SM Rezaul Karim on Saturday.
He made the observations while inaugurating a workshop and fellow selection styled 'Development and Prospects in the Livestock Sector: Role of Mass Media' jointly organised by Livestock and Dairy Development Project (LDDP) and Livestock and Fisheries Journalists Forum at Dhaka Reporters Unity in the city.
The minister said entrepreneurs are playing a pivotal role in becoming self-reliant in protein items, according to a press release.
And they are also making contributions by reducing unemployment and keeping the rural economy buoyant, he added.
The minister said this potential sector needs to be taken forward quickly to further boost meat, milk and egg production.
The sector helps enhance human immunity by meeting the demand for nutrition and meat, he said. Chief Technical Coordinator of LDDP Md Golam Rabbani said work is underway to increase the production of milk, meat and eggs several times.
