People of all faiths in Bangladesh enjoying communal harmony: CA

Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed Tuesday said Bangladesh takes pride as its people, irrespective of cast and creed, coexist enjoying communal harmony, reports UNB.
He made the remarks when the Ambassador of the Holy See in Dhaka, Monsignor Paul Tschang in-Nam, Apostolic Nuncio, made a farewell call on him at the CA's office.
Monsignor, a representative of Catholic Pope, appreciated the caretaker government's various reform measures, especially the anti-corruption drive under the leadership of the Chief Adviser.
The Holy See Ambassador, who has been in the city for about five years, said the Pope's message is 'religion is the vehicle of love and peace'.
The Chief Adviser said the fundamental base of Islam is peace and harmony and the muslims believe and practice it.
He said people of all faiths in Bangladesh exercise their religious rituals and celebrate their religious festivals freely and peacefully. "Here all are Bangladeshis," he added.
Regarding reforms, the chief adviser said a lot of reform measures have been taken towards holding a free, fair and credible election.
Fakhruddin told him about his visit to New York to attend the 62nd UNGA session in September last where he projected his government's objectives and performance in the world forum.
The Chief Adviser also informed the catholic leader about his planned visit to Kampala, Uganda to attend the CHOGM 2007 in the last week of November where he will have a chance to interact with the heads of the Commonwealth countries.
Fakhruddin appreciated the catholic community's contribution to social and education sectors and congratulated the Pope's interfaith campaign.
