People paying last respect to Matin

People from all walks of life flocked to Central Shaheed Minar in the city on Thursday to pay their last respects to Language Movement hero Abdul Matin. His body was taken to the Central Shaheed Minar at 12 noon for the public to pay their last tributes. Language movement veteran Abdul Matin passed away at a city hospital on Wednesday morning at the age of 87. Abdul Matin, who is popularly known as 'Bhasha Matin', had been on life support at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) since Saturday. Born on December 3, 1926, Abdul Matin was an active activist of the Language Movement in 1952. He is one of the leading student leaders and organisers of the movement. His contribution to the movement has been hailed by the other activists and students who participated in the great Language Movement, according to a news agency.
