People to force govt to go for snap polls : BNP

Saturday, 8 November 2014

BNP spokesman Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said on Friday they will realise their demand for snap polls under a non-party administration through a strong mass movement, reports UNB.
"They (AL leaders) are repeatedly saying no election before 2019, but people will realise their demand through a vigorous movement," he said.
Fakhrul, the BNP's acting secretary general, came up with the remarks while talking to reporters after placing wreaths at the party founder  President Ziaur Rahman's grave along with BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, marking the 'National Revolution and Solidarity Day'.
He called upon the people of all strata to join their movement for forcing the government for holding a midterm election.
The BNP leader alleged that the government has squeezed the democratic spaces by destroying all the democratic institutions.
"There's no democratic atmosphere now in the country."
He also accused the government of snatching people's all democratic and basic rights. "The only way to overcome the situation is to restore democracy through an inclusive election by dislodging the current regime."
Fakhrul said November 7 is a very significant and memorable day for the nation as the patriot civilians and soldiers freed Ziaur Rahman from captivity through a mass uprising foiling all conspiracies against the county.
When his attention was drawn to ruling party leaders' remarks that Ziaur Rahman was a killer of freedom fighters, he said, "This is their false and fabricated propaganda. Ziaur Rahman had been in captivity from November 3 and was freed on November 7. The country's independence and sovereignty were protected on that day under his leadership."
Ziaur Rahman, made the army chief after the assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was put under house arrest after a military uprising by Khaled Mosharraf, a sector commander during the Liberation War.
Later, Zia was freed by soldiers through a mass uprising on this day.
While BNP and its alliance partners celebrate November 7 as the National Revolution and Solidarity Day, the ruling Awami League and its front organisations consider it the "Freedom Fighters' Killing Day".
Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD-Rob) observed the day as "Civil-Military Revolution Day".
