FE REPORT | Saturday, 17 June 2023
People of the country will not any further fall into trap of the Awami League in the name of election, said Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Standing Committee Member Dr Khandakar Mosharraf Hossain.
"The government tried a lot to convince the foreigners but failed," he said at a discussion organised by BNP Media Cell marking the Black Day for Newspapers (June 16) at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) in the city on Friday.
He further said the government has got unnerved following the new visa restriction policy of the USA.
Dr Mosharraf Hossain alleged that the government's ministers were inconsistently commenting on the new visa policy issue of America as they have got frightened due to public movement.
"So, it's time for the people to topple the Awami League government. If they (government) don't resign right now then they will be compelled to resign," he said with a note of warning.
He criticised killing of a journalist by miscreants in Bakshiganj upazila of Jamalpur district simply because he had ran a report against a local chairman.
He said a total of 59 journalists were killed during the last 14 years; and due to this reason, journalists do not dare write any constructive or real reports against the government.
Dr Mosharraf Hossain also alleged that the syndicates having a clout with the government were committing corruption without any fear.
He said people of the country have been passing a tough time due to soaring prices of essential commodities, rising inflation and recurrence of load-shedding due to the scarcity of fuel oil.
He added the country is facing a shortage of US dollar and British pound sterling.
Dr Mosharraf Hossain said the government has given indemnity by enacting a law for power sector.
He added there was no provision to give indemnity on commercial sector.
Convener of BNP Media Cell Jahir Uddin Swapan presided over the event which was also attended by Nagorik Oikya Convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna, BNP publicity secretary Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anny and its assistant information and research affairs secretary Qader Gani Chiwdhury.
