RANGPUR, May 26 (BSS): Speakers at an open union budget announcing ceremony have stressed on enhanced participation of the common people in formulating and implementing local budget can promote democracy at the grassroots.
They were speaking at the Tk 22.2 million (2.22 crore) budget announcement ceremony of Barobeel union under Gangachara upazila for the 2015-2016 fiscal on Sunday afternoon at the union parishad premises in the district.
JIBIKA, an NGO, under its Rural WASH Project assisted in arranging the ceremony participated by over 2,000 people, including teachers, students, youths, farmers, women community leaders, day-and farm-labourers, socio-cultural activists and elite. With Barobeel union parishad chairman Kajol Mohammad Nurunnabi in the chair, Gangachara Upazila Nirbahi Officer Tauhidul Islam attended the open budget announcement ceremony as the chief guest.
Secretary of Barobeel union parishad Nurul Alam Dulal, union parishad members Shahanaz Parveen, Hanifa Akhter Mukta, Abdul Latif, Faridul Islam Bhutto, Shahinur Rahman, Ataur Rahman, Khalid Bin Walid, Chairman of the governing committee of Thakurdaho School & College Alhaj Abdul Gafur and addressed, among others. Before announcement of the budget, an hour-long question-answer session with the participation of the grassroots people representing all communities of the local society turned the ceremony into live and interesting one.
