People\\\'s participation in municipality budget stressed

RAJSHAHI, Sept 20 (BSS): State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam, MP, has underscored the need for people's participation in formulating annual budget of municipality for its successful implementation.
He also urged the municipality mayor and others officials and staff concerned to perform their duties with utmost sincerity and honesty for fulfilling the hopes and aspiration of the public in general.
The state minister said this while addressing a post-budget public gathering as the chief guest at Arani Municipality under Bagha Upazila of the district Friday.
On the occasion, he also inaugurated the 'One Stop Service Center' of the municipality.
Earlier, the Arani Municipality has announced a budget of Tk 150 million for the next fiscal year (FY), 2014-15, giving the highest priority to the education and sanitation sectors.
"We have given the highest priority to the sectors having enormous potentials in the municipality," said Mayor Nazrul Islam while presenting the budget.
Shahriar Alam viewed that budget formulation and implementation is the precondition to strengthen the local government institutions.
He said the present government has taken steps to strengthen the local government institutions.
He also said open announcement of annual budget is very vital for making the grassroots level infrastructural and other socio economic development works more transparent, accountable and need-oriented.
