People\\\'s power

Wednesday, 25 February 2015

The present crisis must be resolved. This is a crucial time for Bangladesh and we must be united when our peace and harmony are under threat. Dozens of buses, trucks and trains have been burned down. If the violence and chaos continue, foreign buyers of RMG will move away and look for alternative sources for import of RMG products. The ruling party is so intoxicated with power that it is unwilling to resolve the crisis through dialogue. The outside world condemns the violence and killings and the United Nations has urged the government to sit with the opposition across the table. Similar calls were made by EU and the western world.
But the government seems to sidetrack our pains and sufferings and allow things to drift along. As good students are never scared of tests and exams, people's representatives should not be afraid of dialogue and elections. As members of the public, we want peace and harmony in our society, so that we can move freely, talk freely and breathe freely. And this is only possible through dialogue. Hatred and animosity will only make things worse and lead us nowhere. We do not want our lives to be shattered by squabbling political leaders. We actually need fresh blood and new direction.
