Peruvian held with 1.8kg Cocaine at Dhaka Airport

Officials of Immigration Police and the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) in a joint drive on Tuesday detained a Peruvian national and recovered 1.8 kg cocaine from him at Hazrat Shahjalal International airport here on Tuesday.
The detained Peruvian citizen was identified as Jaime Bardales Gomez, 52.
Sources at the airport said Jaime arrived at the airport by an aircraft of Emirates Airlines from Brazil around 8:40 am, and was waiting to have on-arrival visa from the airport’s Immigration Police.
“The Immigration Police, by the time, got information that the Peruvian national was carrying contraband drugs,” Additional Superintendent of Police Jahidur Rahman told UNB.
Later, Jaime was detained and interrogated till 1:00 pm. At one stage, a joint team of the Customs and the DNC searched Jaime’s trolley bag and found the cocaine consignment weighing around 1.8 kg.
Jaime arrived here from Peru via Sao Paolo (Brazil) and his final destination was India, said Assistant Commissioner (Customs) Reyadul Islam.
Contacted, narcotics inspector Azizul Islam said they had secret information from India regarding the drug consignment.
“We received a message around 12:00 pm from New Delhi that indicated that a Peruvian national was scheduled to land at Hazrat Shahjal International Airport in the morning,” he said.
