Peshawar killings: shocking and outrageous

Thursday, 18 December 2014

The world is in a state of shock after watching the brutal bloodshed in a school at Peshawar, Pakistan, where 141 school children were killed by the Taliban gunmen. My words are inadequate to express my grief, shock and indignation.
It is even beyond the imagination of crime fiction writers as to how a human being with flesh and blood can be so inhuman and murderous to kill innocent children. The militants stormed into the military-run school and let loose a reign of terror by killing the children indiscriminately.
In Pakistan, we hear, militant attacks take place regularly and normally the establishment is the target of such attacks. But making children a target is inconceivable.
The world leaders have expressed their sympathy to the victims' families and condemned the incident as unthinkable and un-Islamic. Bangladesh is no exception. We cannot meet hatred with hatred and we must establish peace and justice in the today's world. "Justice denied somewhere, diminishes justice everywhere", so said Martin Luther King. The world needs to be united to establish justice and fair play everywhere so that we don't have to see bloodshed like Peshawar again.
Peace in Pakistan seems to be a distant dream, but we have no other option than to be optimist and hope for the best.
