PGCB signs deal with Siemens for building 230kV GIS substation

Friday, 23 April 2010

Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB) has recently signed an agreement with Siemens Energy Sector for constructing of 230/132/33kV gas insulated substation to be located at Old Airport in the city, according to a press release.
Approximate contract value at Tk 1.14 billion (12 million Euro). This project is to be completed over a period of 24 months.
Siemens will supply its state of art technology 8DN9 and 8DN8 type gas insulated switchgear from its Berlin factory for this project.
Similar such equipment has recently been commissioned in another PGCB substation at Gallamari in Khulna. Siemens is participating in various bids with all the power utilities in Bangladesh with the same 8DN solutions, particularly in metro cities where the land prices are sky rocketing every day.
Siemens Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) with space saving design, low weight and long operating-life cycle, environmentally compatible with negligible operating cost is the best solution where space availability is restricted and land acquisition costs are high.
The land requirement for GIS substation is approximately 5.0 per cent comparing to conventional air insulated switchgear substation.
The GIS solution is not new in Bangladesh. Siemens themselves have provided this technology to PGCB Substation in Bangladesh which is in successful commercial operation.
