Phase I UP polls end

Voting has been completed in 132 union parishads (UPs) under 15 upazilas of eight districts Sunday, ending the six-day first-phase elections to the lowest tier of local government, reports bdnews24.com. The voting started at 8:00 am and closed at 4:00 pm. Public holiday was declared in the unions for the elections. According to the Election Commission Secretariat sources, polls were held in the union parishads in Muladi, Mehendiganj and Hijla upazilas of Barisal district, sadar upazila of Patuakhali, Mathbaria upazila of Pirojpur and Amtoli upazila of Barguna district under Barisal division, Rupsa, Fultola, Terokhada, Dumuria upazilas of Khulna district, Kalaroa and Tala upazilas of Satkhira, Morelganj and Sharankhola upazilas of Bagerhat under Khulna division and Subarnachar Upazila of Noakhali district under Chittagong division. Elections were held in 77 UPs under 11 upazilas of seven districts on the fourth day of the first phase elections Saturday.
