Philippine typhoon death toll nears 100, new storm brings rains

The death toll from Typhoon Rammasun in the Philippines rose to 94 with six missing as another storm brought rains to the ravaged areas, authorities said Sunday. The typhoon has since blown to southern China but a new storm, named Matmo, was packing gusts of 150 kilometres (93 miles) and worsening rainfall in places affected by Rammasun. The Philippines is struck by about 20 major storms annually, many of them deadly. The Southeast Asian archipelago is often the first major landmass to be struck after storm build above the warm Pacific Ocean waters, according to Yahoo News.
