Philippines expects 10 per cent rise in mango export

Tuesday, 11 September 2007

MANILA, Sept 10 (Xinhua): The Philippines' Agriculture Department plans to raise mango exports by 10 per cent in 2007, through expansion of tropical fruits trade with China and Japan and opening-up the other emerging markets in Europe and Asia.
The rise in mango export would result in earnings of 48 million US dollars from the sale of the tropical fruit overseas, local TV network GMA News Monday reported, citing a statement from Philippine Agriculture Secretary Arthur.
Last year, a Philippine Department of Agriculture-led mission to the 8th Cross Strait Floral Expo in China yielded initial sales of over 200 million pesos (4.34 million US dollars) for Philippine tropical fruit exporters.
