Photographers awarded for works on bio-diversity

Six photographers, three professionals and three amateurs have been awarded for their creative photographs featuring various issues related to preserving bio-diversity, reports BSS.
The environmental photography competition aimed to raise awareness about the significance of national biodiversity, to portray the richness of Bangladesh ecosystems and their degradation, and how humans interact with nature.
The competition styled "Biodiversity in Focus" was organised by IUCN in partnership with the Government of Bangladesh and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to commemorate the United Nations' International Year of Biodiversity.
Seven awards at different categories were conferred on ASM Muntasir Mamun, M Zaber Hassan, Fahim Hassan, Din Mohammad Shibli, Probal Rashid and AM Ahad for the competition participated by 140 photographers. Among the winners Muntasir Mamum clinched two awards.
The awards were distributed at a ceremony hosted by Australian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dr Justin Lee at his residence here last night on the eve of International Day of Biological Diversity.
On the occasion, Secretary of the Ministry of Environment and Forests Mihir Kanti Majumder, Australian High Commissioner Dr Justin Lee and Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan, Country Director of IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) Bangladesh spoke on the occasion, among others.
