Pilferage, corruption take toll on WASA clients

CHITTAGONG, July 28: Chittagong WASA loses 8.80 million gallons of water everyday out of its total daily production of 35 million gallons due to pilferage and corruption, according to sources.
Though two-thirds of C'WASA consumers are deprived of water supply facilities about 25 per cent-generated water disappears everyday and multiply the sufferings of the clients.
Sources claimed that the C'WASA authorities were not aware of the issue and were not taking effective measures to this effect incurring huge losses every year.
On the other hand, they serve average bills among the clients without reading meter as a technique of reducing the system loss, sources alleged.
The C'WASA authorities were also allowing new water connections without installing any meter encouraging corrupt practices.
The C'WASA consumers demanded of the authorities concerned to take drastic measures to stop the pilferage and corruption.
