Pilkhana carnage aimed at pushing country towards civil war: BDR DG

COMILLA, April 13 (BSS): Director General (DG) of Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) Maj Gen Mohammad Moinul Islam said today the February 25-26 carnage at Pilkhana BDR headquarters was aimed at pushing the country towards uncertainty and civil war.
The BDR chief said this while addressing the border guards at Kotbari Sector headquarters of the force here.
"Unarmed officers were martyred at the hands of unruly and so called BDR rebellions at Pilkhana during the incident," Moinul said.
Maj Gen Moinul Islam also prayed for peace of the departed souls of the martyrs.
He said dream of the Shaheed officers was to build the country, but that could not be implemented.
The BDR DG said an attempt was made to inflict irreparable damage to the nation by staging a fake rebellion on flimsy grounds and at last the truth had been revealed to the people.
He urged the BDR jawans to speak the truth and discard falsehood regarding the carnage and said the jawans who had lied were handed over to members of the law enforcing agency.
The DG also enquired about the condition of the jawans in the meeting.
Earlier, he exchanged views with the BDR officers at the sector headquarters.
The director general thanked the BDR jawans of all battalions under Comilla sector for showing respect to law and order during the Pheelkhana incident.
Sector Commander Col Mirza Ejazur Rahman, Commander of 33 Rifle Battalion Lt Col Fakhruddin Ahmed and all battalion commanders were present in the meeting.
Later, he also visited Chouddagram BOP.
