Pilot project of voter ID card with photos begins

SRIPUR (Gazipur), June 10 (BSS): A pilot project for preparing the electoral roll with the voters' photographs was launched here today as part of the plan to make the voters' identity card with picture across the country.
Chief Election Commission (CEC) DR ATM Shamsul Huda inaugurated the project at Sripur Pilot High School, an ISPR press release said.
Army Chief General Moeen U Ahmed, Election Commissioners Brig. Gen (retd) M Sakhawat Hossain and M Sahul Hossain, GOC of the Nine Infantry Division Maj. Gen. M Ashab Uddin and Military Secretary of the Army Headquarters Maj. Gen. M Shafiqul Islam were present on the occasion.
Deputy Commission of Gazipur Syed Mizanur Rahman presided over the function.
General Moeen U Ahmed said the army in the greater national interest has come forward with its manpower and equipment to provide support towards making the voters' list aimed at holding a free, fair and neutral election in the country.
"Work of the project for preparing the Voters' ID card with photographs will begin in the light of the experience to be gathered from this pilot project," he said and sought cooperation of the local people, Election Commission and local administration in implementing it.
