Pilot project on updating voter list starts today

Wednesday, 4 March 2009

A pilot project on updating the voter list prepared for holding the last general election starts today (Wednesday), reports UNB.

The Election Commission (EC) will kick off the project in Manikganj. The previous pilot project on digitised voter list began in Gazipur and the model was replicated across the country.

Under the pilot project conceived as part of the voter-list programme-2009, the EC has selected four places of the district -- Baliati and Fukurhati unions in Saturia Upazila and Wards No. 1 and Wards No. 2 in Manikganj municipality.

EC sources said the Commission had already completed the task of collecting necessary information within February 23-28 from the pilot project areas for updating the voter list.

"The process of new voters' registration will take place at Baliati Union Parishad Office on March 4-7, at Fukurhati Union Parishad Office on March 9-11 and at Manikganj old-municipal building on March 12-15," said a press release signed by EC project director Brig Gen Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury.

Chief Election Commissioner ATM Shamsul Huda will inaugurate the pilot project at 10:30am on the Baliati union council premises.
