Pilot project starts today

Tuesday, 26 October 2010

FE Report
The five-day long pilot project of the upcoming Population and Housing Census (fifth) will start today (Tuesday), said officials.
This is the first time in the country that a pilot project is going to be taken before a census. Activities of the project will continue from 26 to 30 October ahead of the forthcoming Fifth National Census to be held on March 15 to 19 next year, the officials said.
The areas of the Pilot Project are Ward No 78 at Sutrapur in Dhaka and Naya Bhangaria union at Bera upazila in Pabna district, said the officials of Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).
The officials said that the previous censuses had many defects for the lack of pilot projects; so this project would be very helpful for counting unerringly.
There would be 100 information collectors and 18 supervisors at the two zones, all of whom have been trained.
For appropriate and accurate information the modern Geographical Information System (GIS) would be used.
According to BBS, the time between 12:00 midnight to 6:00 in the morning of March 14 would be counted as the census night and during this time the census of the floating people around the country would be made.
Bangladesh will follow the UN rules considering the census made in many other countries of the world.
The census would be completed in three steps. At the first step houses and persons would be counted.
At the second step, the information would be examined and scrutinised within 1 (one) month and the final scrutinising would be finished in 5 (five) months.
At the third step, more than 1 (one) per cent of the total population would be provided with a long question paper within 3 (three) months and by using this paper economic and sociological data, parallel to the census, would be collected.
Finally, the Demographic Report would be published within two years (24 months), said the officials.
