Pirate ringleader held in Sundarbans

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel arrested the ringleader of a pirate gang from Sundarbans in Amurbunia camp area of Morelganj upazila of Bagerhat district on Wednesday night. The arrested was identified as Shafiqul Islam Swapan, 44, the ringleader of the gang, Swapan Bahini, and son of Altaf Hawlader of the same village. Lieutenant Mahfujul Islam, company commander of Khulna Rab-6 said, acting on a tip-off, a team of Rab-6 conducted a raid in the area at night and arrested Swapan along with a pistol and one round of bullet after chasing a gang of pirates. However, his other associates managed to flee the scene. The arrested was later handed over to Morelganj Police Station. A case was filed in this connection, according to a news agency.
