Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard arrested a pirate following an attack on them by a gang of buccaneers in the Dhaleshwari River under Sadar upazila early Thursday. The arrested was identified as Ismail Hossain, 38, son of Sandas Majumder of Gopalganj district. Sub-lieutenant Hasanur Rahman, commander of Coast Guard Pagla Station, said a patrol team of the river force seized 800 kg jatka (hilsa fries) from two launches in the river around 4 am. When a boat carrying the seized jatkas reached Boktabali area of Fatulla, a gang of pirates attacked the boat. However, the attackers jumped into the river sensing the presence of the coastguards. Later, the law enforcers arrested Ismail from the spot. Four knives were also seized from his possession. Other pirates, however, managed to flee the spot, according to a news agency.
