Probashi Kalyan Bank (PKB) will provide loans for rehabilitation of the workers facing hard time for financial crisis after coming back home from different countries, said officials.
PKB, the lone specialised bank in the country, conducted a study among such workers in Manikganj district for disbursing loan aiming to bring them under economic activities, PKB Deputy Managing Director Kefayet Ullah told the FE.
He said they will start disbursing loans at Singair in Manikganj this month. "A group of 100 people will get loans in this month," he added.
The bank has selected around 16,80 migrants under the rehabilitation programme in the district, Mr Refayet said.
He said they will sanction the loan to groups only. "The groups have to submit project proposals. Around 100 workers will be brought under one group."
He also said at first they will scrutinise the projects. Then they will disburse loans only against the well-planned ventures. "If the project idea does not seem sustainable or rational, the applicants will not get the loans."
Projects on agriculture, fisheries, poultry farm and many other sectors will be eligible for the loans.
The PKB DMD noted many of the Bangladeshi migrant workers who returned home are facing financial hardship as they could save very minimum. Besides, some of them lost their all properties caught in the trap of middlemen, he added.
The aim of the rehabilitation programme is to make the workers self-sufficient through engaging them in productive sectors in rural areas, he added.
He also said the Libya returnees will get first priority for getting such loans.
The specialised bank will give the loans with 11 per cent interest rates. Besides, it is disbursing loan among the outgoing job seekers at 9.0 per cent interest.
