FE Report
SouthAsia Enterprise Development Facility (SEDF), the International Finance Corporation (IFC) advisory services for South Asia, and BRAC will facilitate small poultry farmers' access to proper farming management and bio-security measures that will improve productivity, reduce costs and increase income.
This was disclosed at a ceremony organised to unveil the cover of the book 'Broiler Murgi Palon Bebosthapana Shohayika' at the Spectra Convention Centre in the city Sunday.
IFC-SEDF and BRAC jointly published the book on broiler farm management.
IFC-SEDF Operations Analyst (Agri business) Khan M Faizus Saleheen, IFC-SEDF (Bangladesh) Deputy General Manager Dipak P Adhikari and BRAC Enterprises Managing Director Muhammad A (Rumee) Ali were present as special guests and Director of Livestock Muhammad Shahjahan was present as the chief guest at the publication ceremony.
The book contains valuable information on how to effectively raise broilers from day-old-chicks to a marketable stage.
It contains clear photographic images and simple Bangla for making the information accessible to farmers.
It also contains eight farm record forms which will allow farmers to keep track of vital information such as mortality, feed ratios, vaccinations, profit and loss, etc.
Such measures can have significant impacts on farmers' farming behaviour and subsequent productivity, despite the farmers having no formal education on how to manage poultry.
The book will be sold to 10,000 farmers and entrepreneurs through BRAC's distribution channel at a cost of Tk 30.
Other farmers and intermediaries will also benefit from the improved productivity of farmers using the book. The BRAC is now working with 1.0 million poultry farmers across the country.
The poultry industry is the fastest-growing livestock sector in Bangladesh. With about 6.0 million people dependent on it for livelihood, lack of technical knowledge is a major constraint that must be addressed.
