Planned city development needed
Tuesday, 12 February 2008
THERE is a growing demand for planned development of cities. Now no one will deny its necessity when all are tired of living in the Dhaka city, growing fast in an unplanned manner. The city's green and open spaces have been grabbed by developers and other land grabbers. By disregarding the rules and regulation they and others polluted the environment of different localities of the city. There is an urgent need to change it all for sake of making this capital livable.
Getting the cooperation of common people would need the initiatives from honest and efficient city authorities. People are ready to cooperate provided they can trust the authorities. Unfortunately, the Rajuk has lost its credibility for many irregularities and wrong-doings by its officials. It is welcome that efforts are now on to streamline the activities of Rajuk and also other related service-providing organisations like Titas Gas, DESA, DCC or BTTB. Such efforts should lead to improvement of their services in qualitative terms, to the satisfaction of the ordinary citizens.
It is also necessary for the numerous service-providing authorities to come together to recover the land grabbed by all sorts of grabbers to improve the capital city's environment. We need to make the city livable.
