Planned family for prosperous Bangladesh stressed

RAJSHAHI, Apr 23 (BSS): Speakers at a post-rally discussion here today called for establishing planned family in every sections of the society for ensuring happy and prosperous Bangladesh together with freeing it from the curse of poverty and hunger.
Terming the excessive population as one of the major problems of the country they emphasised the need for collective effort of all government and non-government organisations concerned to solve the national problem and all quarters should be committed to this regard.
They were addressing the discussion organised by the Department of Family Planning at the conference hall of Family Welfare Visitors Training Institute (FWVTI) marking the inaugural ceremony of the Family Planning Service Week 2011.
Speakers said importance should be given on reducing the existing rate of unwanted pregnancy and fertility through expediting the field level activities at a greater extent.
Additional Commissioner of Rajshahi division Swapan Qumar Roy addressed the discussion as the chief guest with Divisional Director of the department SM Zahedul Karim in the chair.
In his welcome address, Deputy Director of the department Dr Amir Hossain gave an overview of the district level family planning activities and its achievements.
Deputy Commissioner-in-Charge of Rajshahi Subal Bosh Moni, District Manager of BAVS Dr Mamun Elahi and Medical Officer of Maternal and Baby Clinic Dr Nasim Akter spoke on the occasion as the special guests.
The speakers said all sorts of the nationwide development activities are being hampered due to the population burden and stressed the need for giving highest priority to the family planning activities.
In this regard, they mentioned that only the family planning department or any other single organisation is not capable but an integrated effort has become indispensable to attain the cherished target.
On the other hand, they laid stress on transforming the population into skilled human resources after imparting them with technical and vocational education for boosting the foreign remittance earning.
Earlier, a rally was brought out from the Varendra Research Museum premises and converged into the meeting venue after parading some of the thoroughfares.
