Planned housing facilities must for safe habitat

RAJSHAHI, Oct 5 (BSS): Speakers at a post-rally discussion emphasized the need for ensuring planned housing facilities for both the urban and rural areas for the sake of building a safe habitat.
In this regard, they underscored the need for a collective effort to build a clean, healthy, pollution-free and peoples- friendly habitat.
They were addressing the discussion organised by the Public Works Department (PWD) at Circuit House seminar hall in observance of the World Habitat Day-2010 on Monday. "Better City, Better Life" was the theme of the day.
Speakers mentioned that all the buildings especially the houses must be constructed following the building code and that could be the effective means of averting accidents and laid stress on creating awareness among the common people in this regard.
With PWD Executive Engineer Hayat Muhammad Firoj in the chair, Deputy Commissioner Dilwar Bakth and Civil Surgeon Dr Jahurul Islam addressed the meeting as the chief and special guests respectively.
The speakers said importance should be given to establishing growth center- based housing infrastructures to address frequent migration of people towards urban from rural.
To this end, they noted that people's participation in all development activities has become indispensable and said the general people should be familiarized with the state level service delivery activities so that they could derive the total benefits of the service.
