Plant a sapling to save our existence

Monday, 4 August 2014

Plants are a mind-blowing creation of the Almighty and valuable resource of the earth. It is an emergency need of all the creatures. We need to take oxygen and fresh air from tree and it takes the carbon dioxide away from the environment to maintain an ecological balance.
Twenty five per cent of the total land of a country should be covered by forest area to maintain the balance of environment; but in Bangladesh we only have under 10 per cent forest. Due to urbanisation and industrialisation, everyday we are felling trees. This creates hollowness in environment and poses a danger for human lives. This is one of the reasons why we are suffering from various kinds of diseases, many of which are unknown to us. Natural calamity, drought, global warming are looming.
Tree plantation is very necessary for our environment. As we are cutting trees for our day-to-day need, we should plant saplings after cutting each tree. This will fill the gap and help balance the environment. Planting one sapling by each individual every year means planting 16 million trees in Bangladesh in a year. June-August is the time for tree plantation. Let us be a part of it through direct participation. Let us also inspire others to do the same. Let us set our slogan: 'Plant a tree, save our existence'.
