Playroom at BSMMU for children who suffer from cancer

A small investment has brought million dollar smile to children who are suffering from cancer as it enables them to play in a room set up inside the  cancer department of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).
With only Tk 200,000 expenditure, the Department of Paediatric Haematology and Oncology of BSMMU's  has set up the playroom at a  corner of its ward where admitted children can play with lego, puzzle, toys, cars, dolls and use drawing materials and even tablets as a mean to forget their stress and pain.
Canadian High Commission Heather Cruden inaugurated the playroom at a simple ceremony on Thursday. Chairman of Dept. of Paediatric Haematology and Oncology and Lead of World Child Cancer Bangladesh Project Prof. Afiqul Islam and Vice Chancellor BSMMU Prof Pran Gopal Datta were also present.
The entire playroom installation was funded by UN Women's Guild of Rome.
Dr Megan Doherty, consultant of the Paediatric Palliative Care of World Child Cancer BSMMU Twining Project Bangladesh, said in Bangladesh only 1000 children suffering from cancer can get treatment from the BSMMU's specialised department.
On this occasion, the Canadian High Commission also distributed gift bags containing medical supplies, toy and daily usable items to the admitted children of the department.
