Plight of river-erosion victims

Thursday, 17 September 2020

Despite loss of arable lands and properties in river erosion almost every year, the issue is not being dealt with seriously. This year, too, during the flooding, river erosion damaged properties and made many people homeless. In some cases, victims of river erosion are like refugees of civil war-torn counties.
Bangladesh has earned global reputation for addressing natural disasters but there is no mechanism for tackling river erosion. Flood forecasting, infrastructure building and contingency plan for vulnerable people can help address this urgent issue.
