Plot against New Asia Synthetic in Ashugonj protested

Brahmanbaria, May 18: Local businessmen and policymakers have protested a conspiracy being hatched against establishment of New Asia Synthetic Ltd, a Tk 10.00 billion chemical company at Ashuganj in the district.
As part of the conspiracy, a vernacular daily recently ran a story saying the company owners have illegally taken the initiative through grabbing a part of river Meghna.
Industry owners and other stake-holders, however have protested the news terming it false and ill-motivated.
The chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Commerce Ministry Advocate Luful Hai Sachhu told the FE that the news was baseless.
Managing Director of New Asia Synthetic Major (Rtd) Matin said they are doing their job in compliance with all legal obligations.
About 3000 people will get job opportunity after the completion of the project.
Ashugonj Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Golam Hossain Epti said, New Asia Synthetic will produce caustic soda, liquid solid etc to supply to the country's chemical using companies including Ashugonj Fertilizer and Chemical Company Ltd (AFCCL) and Ashugonj Power Station Company Ltd (APSCL).
Ashuganj Upazila chairman Anisur Rahman told the newsmen since March 1 last, they started the work of earth filling and land development and they applied to the Assistant Commissioner (Land) for proper demarcation but until now, nobody went to the spot.
New Asia owners bought about 14 acres crop-land in 457 Char Chartala Mouza for establishing it at the bank of Meghna which is about 140 feet away from the river.
Nagorik Forum leader Ruhul Amin said the establishment of the factory should go unhindered for the greater interest of local economy.
