Plying of goods-laden trucks suspended for six days

MANIKGANJ, Nov 25 (UNB): Movement of goods laden trucks on Daulatdia-Paturia river route has been suspended to lessen traffic jam ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
However, truck carrying sacrificial animals and perishable commodities will remain outside the purview of the restriction and these vehicles to get priority in crossing the route.
The suspension will remain in force until Friday midnight from Tuesday midnight and another three days from Saturday midnight, said Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) sources.
This was decided at a meeting held at Paturia Ferry Terminal recently.
Officials and representatives of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA), BIWTC, district administration, launch owners' association and truck owners-workers federation attended the meeting.
A BIWTC official said the decision to suspend plying of goods-laden trucks was taken for smooth homebound journey of people of south-western region through the river route on the occasion of the holy Eid.
