PM announces support for affected haor farmers

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman announced on Wednesday emergency support for farmers in Bangladesh's haor wetlands affected by heavy rainfall.
Responding to concerns raised by Kalim Uddin Ahmed, the MP for Sunamganj-5, in the Jatiya Sangsad, the prime minister said the government would identify affected farmers and provide assistance over the next three months.
Ahmed had highlighted severe flooding in haor areas, where rising waters are submerging fields and farmers are struggling to harvest crops.
The prime minister said he had already instructed local administrations in three districts to prepare based on weather forecasts and discussed the situation with the disaster management minister earlier in the day (Wednesday".
"Farmers affected by heavy rainfall, whose crops have been damaged, will be identified and provided with support from the government over the next three months."
The announcement comes amid growing concerns over climate-related vulnerabilities in Bangladesh's agriculture sector.
