PM assures completing Padma Bridge by 2018

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday assured completing the construction of Padma Bridge by 2018 saying the bridge would be a reality during the tenure of the current government. ‘Construction of the dream project (Padma Bridge) will be completed by 2018 as the river training and construction works on the bridge are going to begin simultaneously,’ Hasina said while addressing a civic rally in Tungipara after inauguration of a number of projects in Tungipara and Kotalipara. She arrived in Gopalganj this (Friday) morning on a day-long visit. Gopalganj district administration arranged the rally. Without mentioning name of any person or organisation, Sheikh Hasina said, ‘They spread slander against us of corruption in this project, we challenged it, and now it has been proved that their blame was baseless and intentional.’ She said, ‘The allegation against our government with respect to Padma Bridge was a conspiracy against us. So we rejected their financial offer and declared construction of the bridge with our own resources,’ according to BSS.
