PM calls upon Muslims to resist BNP-Jamaat’s evil politics

Sunday, 15 February 2015

Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina has urged all the Muslims, including Islamic scholars, to resist the evil politics of BNP-Jamaat as they are undermining Islam through their heinous acts of burning people to death, report agencies.
She also called upon the Muslims, including pir, mashayekh and alems, to come forward to play a strong role in bringing back those to the true path who are doing politics in the name of Islam, misguided by the BNP-Jamaat.
The PM made the call while addressing the inaugural function of the daylong International Sufi Conference 2015 on Saturday in the city.
Islamic scholars from home and abroad, including India, Germany, England and Russia, are participating in the conference organised by Bangladesh Tarikat Federation.
Referring to the vandalism, killing and setting fire to vehicles by BNP-Jamaat clique before the last general election, the PM said they are again out there on the streets to kill people hurling petrol bombs and burning innocent citizens to death in the name of politics.
She said BNP-Jamaat always uses Islam for their political gains but show little respect to the religion of peace. "They've no respect for Islam …that's why they enforced agitation programmes during even Biswa Ijtema and on holy Eid-e-Miladunnabi."
She called upon the country's pir, mashayekh and Islamic scholars to come forward to create public opinion against burning people to death and reach the essence of Islam to the general public.
Terming Islam as a religion of peace and progress, Sheikh Hasina said, there is no place of terrorism and destructive activities in this religion.
Chairman of Tarikat Federation Syed Nazibul Bashar Maizbhandari, MP presided over the function while its secretary general MA Awal, MP and Dean of Diplomatic Corps and Ambassador of Palestine Shaer Mohammad spoke on the occasion.
When the country's people were living a peaceful life and the country's economy was marching forward recouping the losses due to their destructive acts, the PM said, the BNP-Jamaat nexus is again engaged in destructive activities and killing spree.
The prime minister expressed the hope Allah would bring the violent agitators to their senses. "How can humans burn other humans!" she wondered.
"Those burning people to death in the name of Islam are only defaming it," Hasina added.
BNP chief Khaleda Zia was trying to "burn democracy to protect her ill-gotten wealth," she alleged.
"She's afraid of facing trial," Hasina claimed.
Khaleda, her elder son Tarique Rahman and several BNP leaders are being tried in two corruption cases.
The prime minister said deaths caused by sabotage are being done "to fulfill a personal agenda" she said.
Describing various measures taken by Awami League government for the welfare of Islam, the PM said Father of the Nation established the Islamic Foundation and Madrasah Board while her government implemented massive programmes over the last six years for expanding Islamic education and ideals.
She said, her government has taken steps to set up at least one model mosque in every upazila and will recruit one teacher on religious affairs in every school as character building is not possible without religious education.
