Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina has directed the Meteorological Department to remain more alert about forecasting cyclone and tidal surge in future, reports UNB.
She also asked them to remain alert about calculating the timing of full moon, last night of the dark fortnight, and ebb and flow of tide.
The Prime Minister's directives came Thursday when Bangladesh Army and Air Force donated Tk 3.5 million to Prime Minister's Relief Fund in aid of the cyclone Aila-affected people in the country's southern districts.
Sheikh Hasina said that she has decided to set up a 'Probashi Kalyan Bank' to provide financial support to the people intending to go abroad, who earlier used to sell their lands and other property to bear the expenditure.
Army Chief General Moeen U Ahmed handed over a cheque for Tk 2.5 million on behalf of the Trust Bank run by Bangladesh Army to PM Sheikh Hasina at her office in the morning.
The Air Force Chief, Air Marshal SM Ziaur Rahman, also handed over a cheque for Tk 1.0 million to the PM at her office.
Press Secretary to the Prime Minister, Abul Kalam Azad later briefed the newsmen about this.
Sheikh Hasina thanked the Army and the Air Force for coming forward to help the country's disaster-affected people.
She described the donations an "exemplary step" saying that such gestures would act as an inspiration for the cyclone victims to be firm in their determination and stand up on their own feet to overcome the losses caused by the cyclonic storm.
Hasina mentioned that seventeen helicopters of the Army took part in the relief and rescue operations immediately after the storm Aila.
Speaking on the occasion General Moeen mentioned different welfare programmes of the Trust Bank and expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for setting up the Bank.
He also informed the Prime Minister about various welfare programmes of the Bangladesh Army including several training programmes.
