PM criticises murders of Bangladeshis in US

Sunday, 28 September 2014

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has come out strongly against the murders of Bangladeshi nationals in the USA. 'The US tries to set benchmark for civilised behaviour for all. How can they explain such brutal murder of our people in this country,' Hasina said while addressing a Saturday night civic reception for her at Marriot Murphy hotel in New York to mark the 40th anniversary of Bangladesh’s joining the United Nations. Hasina was referring to the recent murder of Nazmul Islam, 55, in New York's Atlantic Avenue 76th street crossing – and also the 2012 Aug murder of Belal Talukdar, 47, by robbers at a grocery shop. 'We want justice for every Bengali killed in the US. A local court has, however, sentenced one Kezlin Mendez for the murder of Belal Talukdar on Aug 13 this year. Speaking on politics back home, Hasina blamed the BNP leadership for its ‘wrong decision’ to boycott the Jan 5 elections. 'They are now paying for it and their leaders are talking rubbish.’ About war crimes trials, Hasina said they will continue. ‘They enjoy the support of the people. None can stop them with a strike or two,’ she affirmed, according to bdnews24.com.
