PM for army promotion based on merit, belief in Liberation War spirit

Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina directed Sunday senior officials of the Army to select future leaders for promotion based on their professional excellence, experience, obedience, leadership quality, discipline, and above all, their belief in the spirit of the Liberation War, reports UNB.
She gave the directives while inaugurating the Army Headquarters Selection Board-2014 of the Bangladesh Army at Dhaka Cantonment.
The PM directed the senior officials to find out the most qualified future leaders impartially, rising above personal liking and disliking , and hand over the leadership of the force to those having patriotism and belief in the spirit of the Liberation War.
Terming the spirit of the War of Liberation as the brightest and most glorious chapter in the thousand years' history of the Bangali Nation, she said the country's independence and the spirit of the Liberation War were ideally very fundamental and prime issues for the Army.
Sheikh Hasina mentioned that the efficiency and image of any army depended on training, discipline and professional excellence of its members, and said in promoting the officers to higher posts, priority must be given to their professional standard and educational qualifications.
The PM, who is also in-charge of the Defence Ministry, asked the Generals of the Armed Forces to remain always vigilant and ready to face any threat and protect the constitution of the country and further strengthen the trend of democratic process.
Sheikh Hasina hoped that the senior officials of the Army would be able to select appropriate and most qualified leadership in a proper and justified manner of evaluation, applying their sharpness and neutrality rising above personal liking and disliking.
Army Chief of Staff General Iqbal Karim Bhuiyan gave the welcome address while Prime Minister's Security Affairs Adviser Major General (rtd) Tarique Ahmed Siddique was, among others, present at the function.
